How long does it take for google to recognize backlinks?

Posted on: 01/07/2010 by in SEO Tips

Hi,

I have recently launched a new website. I just want to know how long does it take for Google to recognize backlinks to my site. I am currently generating backlinks by posting on different forums, blog commenting and directory submission. It has been a week now but still there are 0 backlinks to my site according to Google.

Yahoo is relatively quicker than Google in recognizing backlinks. Does anyone have any idea how long does it take for Google to recognize backlinks to my website?

Keep an eye on your web server logs and check to see when the Google crawler bot accesses your site. I doubt there is a fixed or recognisable pattern for crawling times, especially considering the enormous number of pages that google indexes.

To be honest your time would probably be best served creating quality content that is useful to people or if you are promoting a service, make sure it is an appealing one.

That way people will link to your site content and your PageRank will go up which in turn will get you more visitors. It’s a snowball effect. Don’t try to artificially boost your pagerank, you will more than likely end up getting your site excluded from google’s crawler.

Good luck with your new site.

Also do bookmarking and article posting & have patience. Google takes time to show back links. It may be 2 months or more depends where are you submitting your website.

    Hi Helen,

For Google to recognize your backlinks simply takes time. I’ve been indexed by Google within a matter of hours and other times it has taken a few months. Google will sometimes place your site in the sandbox to make sure that it is worth indexing. Like what already has been mentioned above, be patient and keep writing good quality articles. Google is looking to make sure that your articles and keywords are relevant to your site. When writing articles pay attention to your SEO. Good SEO is often done.

If your backlinks come from good quality (good according to Google) sites then only Google lists them and better quality links take very less time to appear I have seen Google pick up links for my site in less the 4 days. Normally, it will take about 1-2 weeks to get the effect of your backlinks. However, if you can get backlinks from high traffic pages or sites, Google normally used to visit those sites very frequently.

Google doesn’t list every backlinks to your website, but yahoo does. That’s why you think yahoo is quicker. But I believe that Google is faster than Yahoo in indexing websites, so happened to me. If you links are listed in Yahoo, sure Google knows about them, but it may not list them. Use Social Bookmarking which all are high quality site according to Google also when you bookmark your website with Social Bookmarking site you will find most of them are authority site also so you will get very quick back link.

Google only give credit to dofollow links.

If you backlink is rel=”nofollow” tag added, then it won’t be counted as backlink and it won’t give you credit towards pagerank or SERP ranking in Google search results.

If you want to check for backlinks, I suggest you to use Yahoo Siteexplorer https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ or any of the 30 backlink checker http://atniz.com/2009/03/20/29-backlink-checker-and-link-analyzer-sites/

From my personal experience, one of my new website took nearly 4 weeks to get it indexed in Google with
    - Google Webmaster (http://www.google.com/webmasters/) claimed
    - Google Analytics (http://www.google.com/analytics/) installed

I suggest you to do the same thing and wait for a few more weeks.
